30 Years After

This month, PHP turned 30—a programming language that has evolved hand in hand with its users. Perhaps that’s why it’s so beloved by those whose careers are tied to it, just as many of us have gone from being sloppy, careless coders to meticulous professionals. PHP has grown from a loosely typed language, often scorned by the community for its shortcomings, into the backbone of both startups and established companies.

One of PHP’s greatest strengths has been its power to drive the growth of the World Wide Web—making it easier to launch countless businesses on a budget and opening the door to talent that matured over time. Without a doubt, it’s one of the technologies that has changed our world.

Similarly, AI is now enabling a new leap forward, accelerating production and opening up new horizons for developers. The same doomsayers who now predict disaster from AI’s intrusion into software development once claimed that applications built in PHP were doomed to fail due to poor performance and well-known security issues.

The future is uncertain, but the past teaches us that astonishing progress is more likely than apocalyptic scenarios.
