I’ve never had a strong attachment to things—quite the opposite, in fact; getting rid of objects, habits, or environments has always felt liberating. Maybe that’s why I like software, or maybe it likes me—or perhaps we just get along well. By its nature, it’s easy to destroy. I’d even dare to say that deleting code is just as necessary and healthy as writing it; if you go too long without deleting a line, your repository is probably decaying slowly.

In that spirit, I’ve spent the last few weeks (six, to be exact) shedding a few extra kilos and some annoying habits. In their place, I’ve found space for a renewed self—full of energy and motivation, ready to stir things up for another season. I have a few projects in mind that are starting to take shape:

  • A learning framework, which I designed to help my youngest son catch up on his studies over the summer. I hope to share it as open source for anyone who might benefit from it.

  • This software engineer’s journal, with the goal of continuing to write—this time in a shorter and more consistent format.

I’ve taken down, whether temporarily or for good, the old entries I had been writing to make room for this debugging myself: a daily space where I’ll write about whatever comes to mind, even loosely, as long as it relates to software.
