Today I heard a phrase that got me thinking: "No one cares what you did last year." It can be interpreted in many ways depending on the context, but bringing it into my own world, the first thing that comes to mind is how some hires arrive with high expectations thanks to their background, achievements, or reputation. The halo effect doesn’t last forever, and sooner or later, the star hire must earn the respect of their peers.

In that sense, it’s better to assume that wherever you go, you’ll need to prove your worth day by day — you can’t live off past glory.

Another valuable takeaway is that you can always outdo yourself. You might be at your best right now, and even better things might lie ahead. Instead of giving up thinking you've already peaked, you can keep learning, improving, and creating new things.

And taking it one step further: it’s not worth spending a single minute dwelling on past losses, failures, or mistakes. If no one else cares about them, why make a big deal out of them yourself? Why waste time clinging to their memory? If it’s wise to turn the page on success, it’s even wiser to do so with failure.
